The Sweetness of Doing Nothing

For those of you who are rom-com lovers like ourselves, you may recognize this saying from the movie "Eat Pray Love." For the rest of you, allow us to explain. Our lives are endlessly hectic, and we find ourselves mindlessly running from errand to errand, rarely taking a pause to reflect on our day or our mental state. In a constantly moving and evolving world, how can we ever keep up if we never allow ourselves to slow down?

It may seem counterintuitive, but if you don't carve out some dedicated time to just do nothing, you'll likely experience the very real effects of burnout. We all need time to unplug from the noise of the day and allow ourselves to listen to messages in the silence. Taking a day to do nothing helps filter out the swirling chaos around us and focus on the voice within. But we can't exactly do nothing all day...can we?


The simple answer is YES! We aren't talking about binge watching Netflix for 8 hours straight, or staying in bed all day. Instead, we are referring to mindfully meandering about your day in a way that energizes you. Need a nap? Why not nap on a blanket in your backyard? Enjoy the rustle of leaves and chirping of the suburban birds. Started a craft you never finished? Put on some music and let your creative juices flow. Missing a friend? Pick up the phone and give them a call. They may be missing you too.
