New Shipmate On Deck

Navigating Waves of Change

Backyard Wellness is proud to introduce a new team member! We have been blessed with a baby, and along with it the joys and struggles of a changing status quo. Evenings binge watching Netflix have now turned into...evenings binge watching Netflix while breastfeeding. And changing diapers. And cuddling a newborn. Daily routines have shifted with no way of really knowing what the new routine will be. It's a constant cycle of experimentation and either failure or success.

Life is in constant motion, just like the water in an ocean. Some days the surface is smooth and flat like a mirror. Other days it's churning and turbulent. If we think of our physical bodies as ships, our higher selves as the captain, and the challenges in life as the condition of the water upon which we sail, we can paint an interesting metaphor. We are all captains of our own ships, set sail on a sea we've never navigated, with nothing but a compass and our innate knowledge of the water.

"Life is in constant motion, just like the water in an ocean."

But how do we actually navigate changing circumstances in life, especially ones we've never faced before? Unfortunately, there is no clear cut answer here. I know, this seems to defeat the purpose of us offering advice, but how can you carve one single path forward when changes in life are unpredictable? What we can say is, follow the path that feels lightest. The path of least resistance. When faced with a decision related to changing circumstances, take pause and breathe through the decision. Which one makes you breathe with ease? Which one leaves your heart palpitating and full of anxiety?

As a sailor, you would not knowingly sail into unknown, stormy waters if there is a calm and clear path just as easily accessible. Similarly, you would not purposefully put yourself into a situation that causes you harm if a more loving option is also there. When navigating the waves of life, always try to ride the gentle current towards love and peace. Even if there is an inevitable rough patch you need to pass through, always know calmer waters are around the corner if you pause for long enough to find them. And if you've paused for what feels like an eternity and still can't find your way, remember there are always allies there to pull you through.

Are you going through changes in life and need help finding your path forward? Reach out and we can help!
